If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is....
Health-care reformers love to cite Canada as an example of health-care glory. Everything is paid for! Everything is covered!
Well, for one Canadian family, the situation is not so rosy. They have been ordered by a judge to take their baby off life support. The court will not even allow them to take their son home to die or allow them to seek care elsewhere. Seems like a pretty high cost for "free" health-care.

18 months!
Sam Roman is 18 months old today! Here are his stats from the doctor on Friday:
Weight: 28.8 lbs
Height: 33.75 inches
Head: off the chart
Physical Skills:
Sammy can climb up the stairs, walks and runs well, and can pull himself up to sit in his rocking chair. He can step up on to the stepstool in the bathroom or kitchen and get himself down. He really wants to be able to climb on the couch, and he can turn himself around to slide off of the couch or a bed. He has had some falls and bumps and bruises, but for the most part he is pretty tough! He also stacks blocks well.
Mental Skills:
Sammy can follow two-step directions, such as "Go to your room and get your deedee" He's very good at one-step directions like "Bring me your cup" or "Get me some socks" He likes to help and is conscientious right now--he puts toys away and likes to turn off lights. He loves to read--Goodnight Gorilla is his favorite, as well as anything with photos of real babies.
Speech:
I told the doctor that Sammy had "about 15 words", but after thinking about it, he has many more. Behold the following database of words:
Names: Oma, Opa, Annie, Mama, Daddy, Nana, Parva, Will, Todd, Elijah, Lydia, and "BoBo", which is what he calls himself.
Food: Apple, milk, banana, pizza, cracker (says "Mo cackah?" and is SO CUTE!)
Manners: Please, thank you, more, all done, bye, hello (huh-whoa) He also waves goodbye.
Animal sounds/names: moo, neigh-neigh, baa-baa, maw (cat), dog
Other stuff: read, coat, hat, ball, baby, hockey (this word has his best pronunciation), Bible, bottle, phone, says "I did it!" and combines 2 words often, especially "Bye, Daddy", he shakes his finger and says "No no!" (wonder why?), eat, seat, holds his finger on your mouth and says "Shh"
Tooth Update
Sam has 8 teeth now (finally!) Four on the top and four on the bottom. I can see his incisors through his gums, but nothing has popped through yet. His teething, for us, has been pretty painless.
Sammy is an all-around happy kid. We are so thankful to have him!

Still here...
....nothing exciting to report, really. The kids are here, Daddy is home, and we have been trying to stay busy and warm! No new pictures, no new tricks. Sorry, faithful readers. We'll try to do something news-worthy this week.
