First Week

One-handed blogging while I hold Sammy!

Last night with Daddy--he was wearing his masculine nightgown
Pajama time with Annie. This was before he peed all over his jammies and moved to the nightgown,
So many cute clothes--on Thursday he was "Daddy's Touchdown King"
On Tuesday--all of 3 days old--Sammy went to his first softball game! He was born just in time to see our church's team win its 4th consecutive championship. They won 16-6 (take THAT, Assembly of God!) and we had a good time. Oma and Nana were on hand to watch Annie--I wasn't quite brave enough to go alone. Here's a picture of the handsome devils who reign the church softball league.
Mine's the beardy one in the red shirt. All-Star first baseman!

Generic news:
-Sammy's eating well, though I think he's spit up as much this week as Annie ever did. She was not a spitter; this guy has me scrambling for a burp rag quite often
-Annie is handling the change as best she can. She's certainly crying and screaming more than she used to...
-Overall, things are going well. Amazing how much we forgot about having a newborn!

Quick Video

Here's Sammy at the hospital, just a few hours old (if that). It gives you a chance to see his eyes and his ability to flop his head around and smack his lips.

Baby Sam!

He's here!

Samuel Roman Westphall

There will be much blogging in the next couple of days about how it all went and how he is doing. For now I'll just say that I DID go into labor on my own (yay!) and he is being a very good boy so far.

Here he is all curled up. He's smirking already!

New computer! Mega-blog!

We invested in a new computer yesterday, so now there can be more regular blogging and picture-sharing. Very important as we wait for the baby to show himself.

So here are some older pics of Anne that haven't been shared yet. We have twice attempted some little pigtails on her, and they are extremely cute. She isn't super-pleased when you comb and pull on her hair to get them in, but once it is all done she leaves them alone. She wore them once to church and we received many compliments! Monday's pigtails, from the top.

An odd picture, to be sure, but I thought it gave a good idea of what Anne is looking like these days. She loves playing in our closet--probably because she knows it bugs me. She's still kind of a long and lean girl (she looks lean, anyway) and has a big head. The curls aren't helping the big-head appearance.

What's the first thing to do when you get out of the bathtub? Why, grab a Q-Tip and run naked to swab your baby's ears, of course. Sometimes the things she says and does are so bizarre to us. Makes you wonder what is going on in that giant head of hers...

More to come soon--hopefully pictures of a smushy-faced newborn.

Oh, one more thing

In "life is not fair" news, EVERYONE in our neighborhood who was expecting an August baby has their baby already!

Our neighbors welcomed their 2nd daughter on Friday, a full 8 days before she was due.

There are two daycare providers who frequent our neighborhood park, and each was expecting an August grandbaby. Well, yesterday we went to play and Shelly had her daughter and 4-day-old granddaughter with her, then Sherry said "Oh, my grandson was born last night!"

Jealous!

Dates and Comparisons

I've been pondering a lot lately about when exactly this baby is going to arrive, and I started to compare my current situation to the circumstances surrounding Annie's arrival. So here are some comparisons and predictions about when this little guy is going to show his face:

Doctor due date vs. Actual due date vs. Actual birth date:
Anne was "due" September 28, really due October 4, born October 5
Boy is "due" August 20, really due August 24, so will be born August 25

Number of days from the you-know-what to the "Hello, baby!":
Anne: 265
Boy: if he gets to 265, it will be on August 23

Days between interviewing subs for work and birth of child:
Anne: 1 week
Boy: would arrive 1 week from today, August 19

Date given at 20-week ultrasound (after measuring bones and what-not):
Anne: October 4, born October 5
Boy: August 24, born August 25?

Remember, Anne was considered 1 week overdue, and that is a no-no in our hospital's policy, so we had a 38-hour induction/labor/delivery to get our baby born at exactly 40 weeks and 1 day. So if it gets to be August 27th and this baby has not arrived, we'll do it all again. I may try to convince the doctor to wait until the 31st (the 24th plus one week), but they don't listen extremely well (and that's a whole 'nother post...) So at most, we are looking at 2 and a half more weeks, which seems like a god-awful eternity right now, but will seem short in retrospect when I'm here with two kids trying to juggle it all!

Come out, baby! We want to meet you now.

Video

A video from Oma's camera. I hope it's good--I didn't watch it before posting and I can't hear it!

Still here...

Yes, we're still here. No baby yet. Waiting, waiting.

I've decided it is a bad thing when the doctor tells you that progress is being made, because he got my hopes up and now it is even harder to wait! As the countdown over there says: "13 days to go" I should stop hoping that it will be fewer days than that.

Anne is doing just fine. We have a few new pictures but our computer is SO slow when it comes to loading them that it is hardly worth it to me. Just come visit us if you need a fix.

So, I guess that's that for now. Nothing new or exciting to report. Hopefully soon there will be :)
