Anne got out of bed, claiming she couldn't sleep. I grabbed a small lamp from Cal's room and plugged it in next to her bed. I told her she could read until she got tired. She said, "Oh, thanks, Mom!" She has an abridged version of "Black Beauty" that's she's working on, and she promptly opened her book and settled in. When I went back to check on her, she was asleep and her book was facedown in the covers. What 5-year-old dozes off to a chapter book? She kills me.
